Son of Peter Bott and Ann Magdalena Christ. He was born in Doerrebach, Rheinland, Prussia. He emigrated in 1857 with his wife Anna Barbara Seimann and children Valentine, Peter and Louisa. They also had children Heinrich and Elisabeth. He is listed on the Grand Army of the Republic Membership Roster, Minnesota, age 52.

Moved to St. Paul June 26-July 5. Mustered out June 26, 1865, and discharged at St. Paul July 11, 1865.
