VISION FOR THE FUTURE
What has become the Civil War Veterans Buried In Washington State project began in 1998. Initially it focused on preparing birth - to - death biographical profiles of veterans buried in the Grand Army Of The Republic (G.A.R.) Cemetery located in Snohomish, Snohomish County, Washington. It then expanded to other cemeteries located in Snohomish County and to cemeteries in other counties with "requested" additions. One problem with this expansion is that while a burial ground may have many ACW veterans, our site would show only one or two as requested.
Now, with the assistance of long-time Washington State Civil War researcher Denise Otteson and other dedicated historians we are moving to document ALL Civil War veterans buried in the state on this site. This is an immense task that will take time to complete.
Although we will continue to create cradle - to - grave biographies, in the future many site entries will be listings, only. Individuals who might want to assist with this endeavor by submitting veteran names and their final resting places are encouraged to contact CWVBIWS staff.
