Civil War Veterans Buried In Washington State - Forest Home aka Deep Creek Cemetery

Forest Home aka Deep Creek Cemetery

Deep Lake Rd.
Northport, Stevens County, Washington

In Northport take 4th Street to Crown, then in a while turn onto Deep Lake Road and continue east for about 4 mi. The cemetery will be on your right.

This is a private cemetery, owned by Charles L Pierce. It was originally owned by Ray Evans, who deeded it to Chas Pierce when he died. The cemetery started in 1922 by original owner, Mr Evans. Owner and Contact: Chas L Pierce, Kettle Falls WA, 509-738-2098

Charles said it was in a rundown state for several years, but they have been working hard to restore it as it is possible. A difficult position when there are no funds to support the cemetery.

I found it to be in fairly good shape. There are some markers very worn, as in all cemeteries. There was one mausoleum, which was difficult to read, but I peeked through the bars.

Donna Godes, is now the owner of Forest Home Cemetery. She says a neighbor has moved the fence 5' about a year ago. The cemetery was dedicated in 1912 but its perimeter was not recorded until recently, Godes said she took over the cemetery after the death of her uncle, Charles Pierce, who was the caretaker dating back to the 1970s. Pierce died after falling down crumbling steps at the Spokane Raceway Park in August 2006. She wrote to me in 2015.

Death dates on the markers range from 1903-2001.
