from Denise Ottoson:
His headstone application gives a death date of August 10, 1900, and that is what is on his headstone. Since the GAR gave an earlier death date, and his wife applied for a widow's pension in July, I suspect the GAR date is correct, and the August date is the date of the application or the burial date, not the actual death. He does not show in the local death records, so he may have been traveling (Alaska?) when he died.
