Civil War naval veteran; served aboard the Ohio, the Labine, and the Monadnock. He was a civil engineer and wharf builder who made his impact in the Pacific Northwest for half a century. He was responsible for the design and construction of the old Colman Dock in Seattle, the jumping-off point for many an emigrant to the Alaska gold fields. He constructed the creosote works at Eagle Harbor. He built the first wharf in Bremerton, Washington, a marine presence which led to the location of the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard there. He was also a bridge builder. He lived quietly for many years in the same house, 338 15th Avenue North. The Bonney-Watson funeral home provided cremation, but his burial location has not been found.
