| Obit/Notes | --Obituary, Seattle Post-Intelligencer, Tuesday, December 30, 1924, page 4, column B ADDISON HASTIE DIES AT RETSIL [photo above headline] There used to be a familiar figure who rode at the head of Seattle's parades, a tall, straight man who sat his white horse with a military dignity - Addison Whipple Hastie. But in the last year the parades have moved without him. Illness kept him away, and yesterday morning he died at the Washington Veterans' Home in Retsil. When he found the illness creeping upon him, and when months ago he knew he must to to a hospital for treatment, Hastie wanted just one thing, to go the Veterans Home at Retsil where the companions of his soldiering days, Vets of the Civil War and Indian fights, lived together in the clubby atmosphere of old days and old way and old understandings. Addison Whipple Hastie was born in Schenectady, New York, in 1847, studied at the Union College of Law, now Northwestern University, Chicago, and came to the Puget Sound country in 1891. From 1895 to 1898 he was prosecuting attorney for King County. He was a member of Stevens Post G. A. R., Seattle, of A. O. U. W., and St. John's lodge A. F. and A. M. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Francis McKee Adams, wife of Ensign Adams, U.S.S. Nevada, who is in Seattle; and by two sons, Warren D. Hastie, 837 West Fulton Street, Seattle, and Walter A. Hastie, Hoquiam. The body is at the Home Undertaking Parlors. Funeral services will be held from the Corinthian room of the Masonic Temple tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock, under the direction of St. John's Lodge No. 9. |
