CIVIL WAR VETERAN

Reuben S. Farwell was the son of Jacob and Sallie (Smith) Farwell. He was born July 13, 1843 in Northfield, Vermont.

MILITARY RECORD:
Enlisted June 1861 in St. Johnsbury, Vermont. Served in Company "B", 3rd Vermont Infantry under Colonel Smith. He was discharged December 28, 1862 at White Oak, Vermont due to a physical disability. Received pension on Certificate No. 776328 issued in San Francisco.

He was admitted to the Orting Soldier's Home on March 23, 1904. He requested to be dropped from the Washington Soldier's Home in Orting on March 5, 1910 in order to transfer to the Washington Veterans' Home in Port Orchard (Retsil).

Mr. Farwell died 15 April 1926 in Meridian Sanitarium in Seattle, Washington. He is buried in Retsil in the Veterans' Home Cemetery. He was a widower and indicated that he had no family.

OBITUARY:

FARWELL--Funeral services for Reuben S. Farwell, aged 83 years, will be held in Retsil, Wash., on Monday at 10 a.m. Home Undertaking Company.

The Ask A Librarian Washington service of the Washington State Library found the brief funeral notice that appeared in the April 18, 1926 Seattle Times. An identical notice was published in the April 18 Seattle Post-Intelligencer. They checked both the Port Orchard and the Bremerton papers and found no further mention of him.
