He served as an Ordinary Seaman in the Regular Navy from 1863 into 1864, on board the USS Commodore Read (a converted ferryboat), the USS Unadila (a steam gunboat), the USS Release (a bark), and the USS Princeton (a formal Navy built steam warship).  Located in GAR Memorial Plot.
